CRS Software Ltd – the cool little Wairarapa software company with a difference
Located in a quiet street in Masterton, CRS Software Ltd is the only rural software provider delivering niche rural management and planning software for farmers across the country.
With CRS due to mark forty years early next year, owner and managing director Brian Eccles says the company has stood the test of time.
“We’ve been through forty years of change and evolution to ensure the company remains up to date and in sync with the tech and farming sectors.”
Brian says other changes have mean that the days of IT being a male bastion are long gone.
“Women make up around 60% of our staff and, as a rural based service company, we’re keen to attract and support women in the agri-sector.”
He says encouraging women to the industry has worked, with CRS offering negotiable benefits such as flexible hours and the opportunity to work from home.
“We are proud to have 24 women in a variety of positions across the business.”
Customer Support Specialist and farmer, Abi Fairbrother says, “I work school hours three days a week, with school holidays off which means I can meet family commitments and work on-farm as well.”
CRS Test Analyst, Paula Staple is another example of expansive thinking by CRS. Paula began working for CRS in October 2003 and, after the family relocated to Tauranga in 2013 she continued to work as a CRS contractor. Then her situation changed.
“An opportunity arose to move to Perth when my husband was offered a job. CRS agreed to a trial period from afar, but here I am still working from Perth. I really appreciate that CRS gave me the opportunity to continue on staff.”
Marketing Manager Katrina McClelland is a recent addition to the CRS team, and she says having an opportunity to work in her chosen field for a local company was an offer she couldn’t turn down.
“I wasn’t looking for any job and, having been in IT and international marketing / PR for over 20 years, I wanted to avoid travelling but still enjoy the stimulation and challenge that comes with being part of an innovative company. I was also able to negotiate a four-day week which was the icing on the cake!”
